Report of the meeting of the PGR committee on 12th JanuaryText Box: RILPJ conference

We already have a date for our RILPJ conference: Wednesday 25th November, 2009.
This date was chosen to increase the number of students participating on the event, and to allow new students who arrive in September to have time enough to actively participate.
Deputy Vice Chancellor has confirmed to give the welcoming speech.

So far, only Kokila has confirmed interest in joining to the committee that will organize the conference.
The following students manifested interest in helping with the organization during the last one: Qing Ju, Emily Fay, Michelle Jaffe. Margaret Gough, Christopher Zebrowski, Gavin Bailey and Forough Ramezankhah. We need to confirm their interest to settle the committee! So, contact us please.

Anyone else interested on participating will be very welcome.

·        PGR students' offices in Claus Moser & Darwin buildings and Telephones.

We informed that nobody has complained with us about noise level in Darwin Building. For now, there will be no further actions regarding this matter; however whether somebody still have any compliance about this issue, or any other related with settlement, contact us to look after a definitive solution of this.

We asked about what will happen with telephones lines as most of us lost access to one after moving to the new offices. We were told that sometime in the future there will be telephone facilities; in the meantime we can use Helen Farrell’s one, either to make calls or to use her number as contact number—for CVs in Keele’s Website, for instance.

·        Postgraduate Students Executive Liaison Committee

As reps. we must also attend to the meetings of PSEC. Representative from all postgraduate students (both masters and doctoral) join to key University staff in this.  It is a good opportunity to raise any issues which may be of our concern as well as to get important news! The next meeting is scheduled for 10th February 2009; so, if you want us raising any issue do not hesitate to tell us!

Reminder

We remind you about our Blog at http://students-at-ilpj.blogspot.com/ . Any of you can post—not only ‘serious’ post, every post that help us to improve our ‘human relations’ is welcomed! (pictures, anecdotes, etc).

Additionally, we remind you to tell us what email you want to be included in our google groups’ mailing list. This is intended to serve not only as a forum — it allows following up easily any discussion (it is more difficult with Keele’s mailing list)—but it also has additional tools that we hope to use in the future. After next January 31st, we will complete the mailing list with the official Keele addresses of people that have not replied us not to do so, or to include a different email. This is because our main interest is get better communication between students to improve the conditions ILPJ’s research students are in.

Issues discussed in the last meeting of the PGR committee

1.       PGR students' offices in Claus Moser & Darwin buildings.

It was discussed the actual advance of students' settlement. We learned that some people have complained about noise level in Darwin building. Professor Cownie told us that some of the academic staffs have gone to this premises, but they did not hear any noise.

We would like to ask you whether somebody still have any compliance about this issue, or any other related with settlement, contact us to look after a definitive solution of this.

2.       Postgraduate students’ CVs in Keele’s Website.

We raised again this issue previously discussed at the last ILPJ conference. We proposed a template form to be filled by each of ILPJ research students, and upload them into Keele’s official website. We learned that Luis Lobo-Guerrero is actually looking after this issue with IT staff. We will be keeping an eye about the advances.

3.       Photographs

Related with the previous topic, we were requested by Professor Cownie to ask for voluntaries to be photographed at Darwin building’s offices to show in ILPJ website ‘the good conditions Keele’s students have to do their research’. Anybody interested on appearing in please contact us to coordinate a date with photgrapher.

4.       Seminars

The seminars that have been led by Kostas were positively evaluated. We agreed that as far as he keeps his interest he remains as coordinator of such seminars.

5.       Conference

There is neither theme nor date for the next ILPJ conference yet. We would pretty much appreciate that people interested in collaborating to the organization of this event contact us to start working on as soon as possible.

6.       The next meeting of the PGR committee

This was scheduled for the Monday 12th January. We remind you do not hesitate contacting us regarding any issue you want to be discussed in this meeting.
